Keeping Joomla 1.5 Updated with Admin Tools
Joomla 1.5 users have been without a quick an easy way to update the core Joomla framework with out manually updating. Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 adress this issue with this feature built in, but what about 1.5 users? Luckily the developers that brought use Akeeba have also created Admin Tools.
Admin Tools is described as "a true Swiss Army knife for your site. Our freely available Admin Tools Core will detect, notify you and painlessly install new Joomla! releases as they are made available, fix your files' and directories' permissions, protect your administrator directory with a password, change your database prefix, set a secure Super Administrator ID, migrate links pointing to your old domain on-the-fly and perform database maintenance, all with a single click." This description is about as good as it gets so there is no reason for me to further tout this component.
Using Admin Tools is easy as it gets when it comes to Joomla components, simply download, install, and use! There are some more advanced features that Admin Tools can accomplish over the core ability to notify you that your Joomla core is outdated and give you a one-click install of the update, but it can also help secure your Joomla installation as well. One of my favorite added features to this component is the ability to easily password protect your administrator folder so that it requires an extra layer of login credentials to gain access to this crucial area of your site.
I encourage you to try this component out if you have not already done so, if not for the ease of keeping Joomla updated, but to also explore the added features this little gem provides.
